I just did a very similar technique (3way kick) the other day myself. But I used the free plugin Metric Halo Thump for a subby kick below 70Hz Eq. The extra low end reinforcement can really help a mix.
It’s strange the more I experiment with things the more I discover people have already discovered these things that i’m finding out too.
This happened to me several months ago when I stumbled across parallel compression for lead vocals. But not knowing I was doing it already till I saw a tutorial saying what the technique was actually called !!!
This must mean I’m on the right track with this whole mixing thing I guess?

I’ve used the free “kill” plugin in PT11 to do this but I can see how using proQ gives you infinitely more control over the slopes etc.
