I want to share a tutorial with you that I did for the Pro Audio Files awhile back, which covers my approach to using parallel compression on bass, automation, and more.
Even though this is an older tutorial (please forgive my noobie delivery… Lol), I still think this will be very valuable to you: It’ll help you to understand my workflow and the special routing system I’m using when applying parallel processing in detail.
There are tons of videos out there on how to use parallel compression already, but in this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to take it a step further:
By having both, the raw bass track and the parallel compression chain meeting at an aux track called “Bass level”, you’ll see even greater control over your bass sound and it’ll also make it easier to apply side chain compression and volume automation rides:
I use this routing system whenever I apply parallel compression, not just for bass. So please feel free to experiment with it on vocals, acoustic guitars, snares, kicks or other instruments as well.
